Back to school bash planned

POTEAU—The LeFlore County Health Department will be hosting their Fourth Annual “Back to School Bash” special immunization event on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Each year, with donations from local communities and businesses, the Health Department is able to provide a fun-filled day for kids while making sure they are protected from vaccine preventable diseases and meet all school requirements.  This year, due to the excessive heat, the “Back to School Bash” will be held inside the health department.

This year, instead of backpacks with limited school supplies, we are handing out 300 School Kits. In the kits, there will be more supplies to benefit the students as to what is required for attending school. The School Kits are purchased with the generous donations from Southern Star Satellite, Kenco Plastics and Angela Claiborn, CPA.

Arvest Bank will be serving hot dogs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. as they have done in past years.  Price Cutter will be donating bottled water and McDonald’s and Braum’s will be donating coupons for treats.

Other agencies such as LeFlore County Youth Services, Smart Start Kiamichi and AHEC will be providing activities as well as information. Activities will also be provided by health department staff.

In order for your child to participate, he/she must have either an up to date immunization record or receive immunizations that day to bring them up to date. Immunizations are given Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the health department with no appointment necessary. For more information call LeFlore County Health Department at (918) 647-8601.
