County playoff roundup and schedule
Talihina
and Wister swept both their playoff games Thursday while Poteau fell into the
losers’ bracket with a loss to Roland and the Howe girls stayed alive.
Talihina’s boys and girls downed Silo at Colbert. The Tigers won, 60-42, while
the Lady Tigers stayed alive with a 51-38 victory.
The Tigers play Saturday for the regional championship while the girls take on
Central at 6:30 tonight at Talihina.
Wister’s
boys and girls both downed Gore. The Lady Wildcats won a losers’ bracket
contest, 65-59, and the Wildcats surprised a ranked Gore team, 66-54.
The Lady Wildcats face Colbert today at 1:30 p.m. also at Talihina.
Poteau’s boys fell into the losers’ bracket with a 62-55 loss to Roland. The
Pirates trailed by 13 in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 57-55 with 33
seconds left but the Rangers hit their free throws down the stretch to clinch
the win.
Josh Ross led the Pirates, now 17-7, with 22 while Britt Brown had 12. Poteau
faces Idabel today at 3 p.m. at EOSC.
The Lady Pirates’ season was ended after a 59-32 loss to Roland. Courtney
Allison scored 10 points for Poteau but was the only Lady Pirate in double
figures.
Howe’s girls overcame Caddo, 45-32, and moved within two games of a state
tournament berth. The Lady Lions face Wayne today at 1:30 p.m. at Ada for the
right to play the loser of the Sasakwa and Chattanooga game for a trip to the
state tournament.
After falling to Heavener and Spiro Thursday, Pocola has to make a quick
turnaround for this afternoon’s games.
The Lady Indians play Keys at 1:30 p.m. while the Indians take on Colcord at 3
p.m. at Muskogee.
Spiro’s girls play Westville at 6:30 p.m. while Panama’s boys take on Sequoyah
Tahlequah at 8 p.m. Both these games are also at Muskogee.
Heavener’s girls face Sequoyah Tahlequah Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Spiro’s boys
play Keys at 8 p.m. for regional championships at Muskogee.
