Howe downs Clayton to advance

HOWE—Howe’s boys advanced to the finals of the district tournament with a 69-48 win over Clayton here Friday night.

The Lions jumped out to a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and improved their lead to 35-19 at halftime before coasting in the second half.

Jaron Wiggington led Howe with 31 points and Jace Johnson added 16. Gary Cagle and Barry Skipper each had 16 for Clayton.

Coach Brooks Cawhorn said the Lions played really well and did a good job defensively against Cagle, who is a very good shooter.

The Lions will face Smithville tomorrow night for the district championship. In the earlier game, Howe’s girls, which received a bye, will take on Clayton at 6:30 p.m.
