FORT SMITH—Pocola’s girls and Poteau finished the 78th Annual LeFlore County on a high note Saturday afternoon in the third-place games.

The Lady Indians edged Poteau, 52-44, while Poteau romped to a 75-38 victory over Heavener in the second game.

In the first game, Pocola led pretty much throughout the game but could never put the Lady Pirates away.

The Lady Indians lead 9-6 at the end of the first, 20-18 after two quarters and 34-31 after the third. Poteau actually grabbed the lead twice in the third quarter, the final time after a basket by Jodi Meier and a three by Katie Pierce gave the Lady Pirates a 31-28 lead.

Pocola scored eight straight in the midst of a 16-3 run that gave the Lady Indians a 42-34 lead. Poteau came back behind a pair of threes by Meier and Addie Guthrie to cut the lead to four, but it was the closest the Lady Pirates would get.

Taylor Martindale and Megan Severe each scored 14 to pace Pocola. Guthrie led the Lady Pirates with 15.

Poteau’s boys were dominant in the second game as Heavener played without Brandon Kirkland, who broke his collarbone in Friday’s semifinal loss to Talihina.

The Pirates jumped to a 15-2 lead early and led 24-6 at the end of the first quarter. Poteau’s lead stretched to 48-23 at halftime and the reserves took over in the second half for both teams.

Britt Brown led Poteau with 16 points while Josh Ross had 14. Koda Glover and Austin Mead each had 13 for the Wolves.
