Lady Pirates win golf regional

MUSKOGEE--For the first time in school history, the Poteau Lady Pirate golfers are regional champions.

On Tuesday at Cobblestone Golf Course in Muskogee, the Lady Pirates recorded a team total score of 378, finishing ahead of second place finisher Hilldale by 21 strokes. Fort Gibson was third at 403.

Leading the Lady Pirates was Senior Salena Loggains, who carded an 88 and was a medalist with a second-lace finish individually. Senior Hallie Bovos shot 95 and finished fifth. Junior Shelby Culver recorded a 96. Sophomore Addie Guthrie shot 99. Junior Kelsey Weaver carded a 102. The four lowest scores are used for the team total.

The Lady Pirates will compete in the State Tournament at Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City on May 5th & 6th. The regional championship continues a successful season for these young ladies. They placed first in the Sallisaw Tournament and the Broken Bow Tournament. They placed second at the Savanna Tournament, the Keys Tournament and the Poteau Invitational. Several of the girls have been individual medalists in these tournaments. The girls are coached by Randall Wheat.
