Lady Pirates headed to state

NOBLE—A long bus ride and playing a much bigger school weren’t even speed bumps in Poteau’s drive to the state tournament.

The Lady Pirates improved to 33-3 and advanced to the state tournament next week with three wins here Wednesday to win a regional championship.

Poteau opened with a 15-4 win over Elk City and then took two from Southmoore to move a step closer to a state championship.

The Lady Pirates downed Southmoore 12-9 in the first game and then smashed Southmoore, 16-5, in the championship game.

The location, time and opponent will be announced in the next few days.
