Letters to editor
Don Barnes 1-29-10
Dear Editor:
If anyone has ever thrown
a rock or pebble into a pond and seen how it makes little ripples of water
spread out in a big circle, then, you've witnessed in essence what our display
and consequent wide publicity over the Ten Commandments monument has created, a
"ripple" that will reverberate and have an effect that could even be endless.
So, what I am saying is this; if all the controversy and even any negative
comments have done nothing more than "get a lot of folks attention" and "focus
them on the commandments", what they are, and, even give thought to how much
better shape the country would be in now if more people would try to live by
them, then it has served a very worthwhile purpose and if Poteau and LeFlore
county is being the recipient of a wealth of free publicity for "doing something
good in the eyes of God" ...then so be it.
It's much better we be in
the news for something like this rather than for murders and endless meth
busts. If anyone is interested there is a wonderful web site on the internet
devoted entirely to the Ten Commandments and includes amongst other things, a
lot of good historical and legal information on them as well as pictures of
where they are on display.
Like in Las Vegas, a man has bought large colorful billboards at his own expense
to display with additional wording on the bottom of them like "What Happens In
Vegas...God Knows". Charley Horsley and I have become good friends with him and
he would like to come to Poteau and help us put Commandment signs up at
churches, on the sides of buildings and anywhere anyone might want them.
Check out the web site at
www.Gods10.us.
Thanks again and God Bless America .
Don Barnes
