Walter Durant

POTEAU—Walter Noah Durant, 79, of Poteau, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 22, 1930 in Gilmore and was a welder.

Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Double Branch Baptist Church in Poteau with the Rev. Leroy Billy, Rev. Jim Cook and Rev. G. Clayton Troutman conducting the service. Interment will be at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore. Arrangements are under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Survivors include his wife, Verna L. Durant of the home; three daughters, Donna Durant Macon and Sandra Durant Kemp, both of Tulsa, and Cheryl Durant Hayes of Houston; six sons, Walter Dewayne Durant of Tulsa, Jerry Don Troutman of Scottsdale, Rev. G. Clayton Troutman of Tahlequah, Joseph L. Troutman of Tulsa, Tony R. Troutman of Catoosa, Frank L. Troutman of Oklahoma City; four sisters, Jean Bass of Poteau, Mildred Huddleston of Oklahoma City, Pearl Bost of Poteau, Carolyn Baca of Poteau; two brothers, Paul Nichols of Poteau and Charles Durant of Poteau; 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea with the Thunderbirds, 180th Infantry, Company I, 45th Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cleo (Collins) Durant and brothers Carl, Johnny and Robbs Durant.
