Big bats
power Heavener in opener
By CRAIG HALL
CAMERON—Bryce
Sullivan and Koda Glover each crushed home runs in Heavener’s 10-2 win over
Cameron here Tuesday afternoon in the Wolves’ season opener.
The game was shortened to six innings because of the run rule.
While Cameron had previously played five games, this was the first time Heavener
had seen live pitching this spring.

The ball bounces away after striking the bottom of Koda Glover's bat
early in the Wolves' win Tuesday afternoon. |
Glover was a key for Heavener, both at bat and pitching. He started and picked
up the win for the Wolves, going three innings and striking out eight while
allowing no hits.
His towering two-run blast over the left field fence in the top of the fourth
drove in two runs and increased the Wolves’ lead to 7-0. Sullivan, who doubled
in the second and scored on an error, hit his homer to left field in the fifth,
also driving in two runs.
Sullivan’s home run countered a solo homer hit by Cameron sophomore Austin
Standridge in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Yellow Jackets added their
only other run that inning as Chance Jackson followed the home run with a double
and was brought in by a single by Alex Humphries.
Heavener got out of the gate quickly in the first inning as leadoff hitter
Austin Mead tripled to left-center field. He was brought in on an error.
Sullivan’s run in the second gave the Wolves a two-run lead.
They broke the game open in the third, thanks to a couple of Cameron errors.
Tyler Davis scored on a throwing error as he attempted to steal a base then
Kolby Cross and Andrew Munoz came home on the second error of the inning.
Standridge was the losing pitcher for Cameron, now 2-4. Austin Mead and Nick
Wann pitched after Glover, who was in control with an overpowering fastball.
