County playoff roundup
Poteau’s
boys captured a district championship Friday night while Bokoshe’s girls stayed
alive in the Class B regional tournament.
Howe’s boys saw their season come to an end with a 53-44 loss to Allen in the
losers’ bracket of the Class A regional at EOSC while LeFlore's girls fell to
Caney in a losers' bracket game at Kiowa, 54-40.
Poteau’s girls were beaten
by Muldrow in the district championship, 82-34.
Poteau’s boys jumped out to a 37-15 lead at the half at Muldrow then the fouls
started slanting the Bulldogs’ way as they made a comeback.
The Pirates still led 52-38 at the end of the third quarter then Muldrow rallied
to tie the score late. Poteau’s Josh Ross hit a basket with five seconds left to
give the Pirates a 67-65 lead and Muldrow missed at the buzzer.
Poteau’s boys play in the winners’ bracket of the regional tournament Thursday
at Muldrow against the winner of the Roland and Sallisaw game. The Lady Pirates
face the loser of the game between those two teams.
Ross led the Pirates with 21 points. Britt Brown had 18 and Blake Roley 10. The
win was Poteau's third over Muldrow this year.
Bokoshe’s girls held on to beat Mason at Moss and advance to play McCurtain
Saturday, also at Moss, at 1:30 p.m.
